Gregg Wilkins is a facilitator, percussionist, drummer, and composer. Gregg studied music theory and composition at Chicago Musical College and went on to earn his degree in Sonology from the State Institute of Sonology in the Netherlands. He has been playing music in the Denver/Boulder area since the early 1980's with groups like ULU and Rainforest Percussion Ensemble and a variety of dancers, performers and musicians such as Paul McCandless and Nawang Khechog.
Gregg has studied with Collin Walcott and Arthur Hull including a week long intensive for drum facilitation. Gregg has also been active with school programs and has instructed as well as built various percussion instruments used in the Orff- Schulwerk method of teaching music to children. His musicianship traverses many styles, ranging from jazz and world music to funk and rock.
Applying techniques from all of his training and experience, Gregg creates a unique and spontaneous environment that helps work with and develops each person's abilities to express themselves. He works with all age groups on all levels of rhythmic experience.
He currently facilitates drum circles in the Denver/Boulder area and outlying areas and plays music with a number of groups and small ensembles such as Willow, GOT! and Signel-Z. He is also the house percussionist for the Denver Church of Religious Science.
In the fall of 2005, Gregg started to put his energies into designing a Cajon that would allow him the sounds that he was looking for with both recording and live situations. Having been involved with woodworking for many years and having a background in acoustics, Gregg has come up with 3 sizes of Cajons with 2 variations on the major playing surface. The drum is not made to be stepped on. Do not sit on your Cajon any way other than where the feet are on the ground. The playing head and back are definitely not designed to be stood on.
